The European Union (EU) is a political and economic union of 28 member states that are located primarily in Europe. The EU has developed an internal single market through a standardized system of laws that apply in all member states. EU policies aim to ensure the free movement of people, goods, services, and capital within the internal market, enact legislation in justice and home affairs, and maintain common policies on trade, agriculture, fisheries, and regional development.

the International Maritime Organization – is the United Nations specialized agency with responsibility for the safety and security of shipping and the prevention of marine pollution by ships.

THE GLOBAL MTCC NETWORK

Funded by the European Union and implemented by the International Maritime Organization, the Global MTCC Network (GMN) – formally titled “Capacity Building for Climate Mitigation in the Maritime Shipping Industry ” – initiative unites technology centres – Maritime Technologies Cooperation Centres (MTCCs) – in targeted regions into a global network. Together, they are promoting technologies and operations to improve energy efficiency in the maritime sector and help navigate shipping into a low-carbon future.

The Pacific Islands Forum is a political grouping with 18 Members and a secretariat to stimulate economic growth and enhance political governance and security for the region, through the provision of policy advice; and to strengthen regional cooperation and integration through coordinating, monitoring and evaluating implementation of Leaders’ decisions.

THE UNIVERSITY OF THE SOUTH PACIFIC

The University of the South Pacific (USP), as one of two regional universities in the world, is supported by 12 Pacific island countries. Since its inception, USP has been committed to fulfilling the challenge of providing the highest possible quality of education and research while addressing the changing circumstances and needs of the Pacific region. In collaboration with the Government of Marshall Islands, USP has established at its campus in Majuro, the Micronesian Centre for Sustainable Transport (MCST) to support the whole of country transition to a low carbon transport future.
